This school which had a long history about year 1875 has been founded as a primary school. But to accept as a school we can see a clear log entry on the 31st August in 1916. The numbers of first students were 43 and the staff consisted of three including the head master.
This school started in English medium, had two separated parts as Weuda Junior School and Weuda Senior School.
Under the concept of maha vidyala and becoming the sinhala language as the state language this school has been named as a Maha Vidyalaya in 1957.
According to the grading system of Education Department this school is named as a grade 1-C school and has become as a Madya Maha Vidyalaya on the 6 th of June, 1997.
In early stages this school was a leading school in this area. At that time this was the only school to get education for the students from the area of Galagedara to Pilessa. But time to time many schools were established in this area and it caused to decrease the number of students rapidly.
The all old boys who got education in the English medium did government jobs and those who finished their education in the end of 1960 were able to go to Universities, Technical Colleges and Teachers' Traning Colleges and other employments.
According to the present president Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksha's Isuru School Concept, this school also has been selected as an Isuru School. As a first step removing the students of primary section, Grade 1 students have been shifted to a separate school from year 2008.Upto now this school has been limited to the Art and commerce streams.
From year 2009 the opportunity has been given to the A/L students to follow the science stream. English medium class for grade 6 is one of the projects which are started under the concept of Isuru School.
